Our Dogs

Bob our head guardian

It is very important to have some sort of animal that is capable of guarding your goat herd. There are all kinds of guardians out there that make wonderful protectors.

Here on our farm, we have five guardian dogs to protect our ever-growing herd of goats. Bob is our Akbash Guardian. The Akbash originated in Turkey and is a very old breed. They are known for being fierce protectors that will stand up to even the most dangerous animals. The Akbash can be a wonderful family dog as well. We are all part of Bob's herd.

Our other guardian dogs are Brody and Ripley, Pyrenees/Akbash cross, Ozzy Dog, a Great Pyrenees, and Wendy, a Pyrenees/Anatolian cross. The Pyrenees Mountain dog originated in the mountains of France and are known for being loyal as well as great protectors.

Our herd is vulnerable to all kinds of natural predators here in East Texas, including coyotes, bobcats, large predatory birds like hawks and owls, as well as neighborhood dogs. We depend on our livestock guardian dogs to watch over the goats and defend them with their lives, if necessary.

We have two herding dogs at Kelsey Creek Farm. Ruffio our Farm Collie, and Newt our Pembroke Welsh Corgi. These guys help keep the herd inline.
